Are you a member of Young-AIL willing to meet other members?
Do you want to learn about urbanization, microbial biodiversity and ecosystem functioning?
Will you be able to perform a sampling campaign scheduled between March 2020 and April 2020?
If so, gather a team of two to five Young-AIL members from your working place and become a part of the URBIFUN project!
Study sites requirements:
-
1-3 streams (preferably permanent, near your working centre or other places that might be easily accessed by you and your team).
-
Stream Order (1-5).
-
Basin land-uses cover (remember that the main goal of URBIFUN is to analyze the effects of an urbanization gradient. For this reason, selecting streams with a different urban land-cover percentage is key in this project).
Requirements for participating in the URBIFUN project:
-
Being a member of Young-AIL
-
Having access to a car (URBIFUN will pay for gasoline)
-
Having access to data loggers for basic physico-chemical analyses (i.e. oxygen, temperature, pH and conductivity)
-
Commitment to carry out the sampling established in the project. There will be one sampling campaign (by March-April 2020). Briefly, the sampling campaign will require collecting water and sediment samples, and performing metabolism measurements. The materials and methods will be provided by the project.
Participate in URBIFUN and send us the following information before the 15th November 2019:
Personal information:
-
Participant names
-
Research work centre
-
Research field and expertise
Study site information (check study site requirements!):
-
Stream names and order
-
Location (GPS coordinates)
-
Km to the streams from your research centre
-
Percentage of urban, agricultural and forest land-cover
-

-
Climatic region
-
Streambed characteristics (i.e. sediment vs. pavement)
